Permanent Hair Reduction

The treatment works by targeting the melanin (dark pigment) in the hair, which is converted into heat. This heat breaks down the hair follicle, reducing the opportunity for any re-growth and changes the entire structure of the follicle itself.

Over time, treatment reduces the problem of ingrowing hair. A course of 6-10 treatments every 5-8 weeks is recommended for the best results, which only needs to be repeated as and when the hair returns.

 Facial Thread Veins Removal

A thread vein is a small visible red or purple blood vessel near the surface of the skin, usually most concentrated around the nose and cheeks, often formed as a result of sun exposure. Blood in those thread veins contains haemoglobin (red pigment) that absorbs the light and converts it into heat. The heat destroys the protein in the wall of the thread vein; as a result, the vein will gradually and safely disappear through the lymphatic system.

The number of treatments depends on the severity of the thread veins. Clinical studies have confirmed that 1- 4 treatments usually are needed one month apart.

 Sun Damaged Skin Rejuvenation

Sun-damaged skin’s visible signs treatable with IPL are:

  • pigmentation

(freckles, sun spots, age spots, skin discolouration, mottled pigmentation, dull complexions) and

  • diffused redness or rosacea symptoms as well as broken thread veins

The light is absorbed by haemoglobin in the fine blood vessels (treating redness) and melanin in the age spots (treating pigmentation) and effectively removed by destroying the melanin and coagulating small blood vessels.

A course of 3 -6 treatments, every 4 weeks is recommended. You might choose to have 1-2 annual maintenance treatments.

Acne Clearance

During the treatment, two body chemicals absorb the light: haemoglobin (red pigment) and protoporphyrin (produced by Acne bacteria).

The treatment reduces the blood supply to the sebaceous gland, which slows down the production of sebum (oil) and P acnes bacteria that leads to acne. In addition, treatment minimises skin pores.

As it is combination therapy, you will be advised to obtain Adapelene cream from your doctor, 4 weeks prior to treatment, to begin to normalize the skin’s thickness and allowing greater IPL light penetration.

Treatment should be done once every 2-3 weeks for 4 treatments.

What you need to know

Does it hurt?

The sensation varies from person to person. No anaesthetic is required and many clients describe the discomfort as a warming sensation similar to the feeling one after a day on the beach. Hair removal and treatment of pigment and acne are really quite comfortable treatments. Treatment of blood vessels typically feels like a rubber band flicking the skin, followed by a feeling of gentle warmth.

Are there any possible sides effects?

A mild erythema/redness can appear immediately after the treatment or a few hours to a few days after. We recommend using pure Aloe Vera gel to soothe the skin. When treating areas of pigmentation it is normal for you to experience darkening of pigment in the treated area in the next few days following the treatment

Are there any contraindications?

There are a few contraindications, where you cannot be treated:

  • Pregnancy and breast fiddling (treatment can be done 3 months after)

  • Pacemaker, heart diseases

  • Epilepsy

  • Liver or kidney diseases

  • Diabetes

  • Vitiligo

  • Lupus disease

  • Haemophilia

  • Porphyria

  • Cancer

  • Keloid scarring

  • Gold injections

  • Active tans

  • Anti-inflammatory medications

  • Photosensitive medications (St. Jons Wort – Please consult your Doctor)

  • Under 18’s

Conditions treatable but to be avoided:

  • Semi-permanent make up / tattoos (treatment can be done avoiding the area)

  • Skin infections/broken skin (avoid the area)

  • Botox/Collagen injections (patch test can be done 2 weeks after and treatment can be done 2 weeks after the patch test)

  • Deep peel or laser resurfacing by a doctor (treatment can be done 6-12 months after)

  • Microdermabrasion (treatment can be done 2-4 weeks after)

  • Glycolic Peel/Chemical Peel (if done at the doctors –treatment can be done 3 months after; if done at the salon –treatment can be done 4 weeks after)

Is there any special aftercare?

Yes, wearing  SPF (sun protection factor) minimum 30 and soothe your skin with Aloe Vera gel, if needed. We also recommend that you avoid using sunbeds and sunbathing for the next 30 days. And for 24-48 hours after treatment you should:

  • NOT use any perfume, perfumed products or makeup – unless it is 100% mineral make up

  • AVOID any form of heat (sauna, steam room, hot bath), swimming, gym

  • NOT touch, pinch and scratch treated areas

Is it safe and effective?

Clinical trials documenting Ellipse’s safety and effectiveness, were carried out by leading doctors prior to the release of the product and it has been in daily use for over 15 years, with – uniquely – a 10-year follow-up study showing long-lasting results.
