IPL Intense Pulsed Light

It's a clinically proven, completely safe and effective treatment, which works by targeting three natural chemicals in our body with the light:

  • Haemoglobin (the red pigment in the blood cells); in Thread Veins Removal and Skin Rejuvenation Treatments

  • Melanin (dark pigment) in the hair or in the skin; in Hair Removal and Skin Rejuvenation Treatments

  • Protoporphyrin produced by Acne bacteria; in treating Acne

Those body chemicals absorb light of certain specific colours (wavelengths) and depending on, what is the skin concerns, it’s a perfect solution for:

  • hair reduction (up to 95%)

  • facial thread veins clearance

  • sun-damaged skin rejuvenation (photo rejuvenation)

  • acne clearance

A full consultation and patch test is required to ascertain your suitability for the IPL treatment, before booking your first IPL treatment. It usually takes 30 mins and costs £30 non refundable fee which is redeemable against your first IPL treatment.

Permanent Hair Reduction

The treatment works by targeting the melanin (dark pigment) in the hair, which is converted into heat. This heat breaks down the hair follicle, reducing the opportunity for any re-growth and changes the entire structure of the follicle itself.

Over time, treatment reduces the problem of ingrowing hair. A course of 6-10 treatments every 5-8 weeks is recommended for the best results, which only needs to be repeated as and when the hair returns.

Patch Test required prior to first treatment.

 Facial Thread Veins Removal

A thread vein is a small visible red or purple blood vessel near the surface of the skin, usually most concentrated around the nose and cheeks, often formed as a result of sun exposure. Blood in those thread veins contains haemoglobin (red pigment) that absorbs the light and converts it into heat. The heat destroys the protein in the wall of the thread vein; as a result, the vein will gradually and safely disappear through the lymphatic system. The number of treatments depends on the severity of the thread veins. Clinical studies have confirmed that 1-4 treatments usually are needed, and these are timed about one month apart.

Patch Test required prior to first treatment.

 Sun Damaged Skin Rejuvenation

Our skin ages and there is no exceptions… One of the biggest factors of photo-ageing is sun exposure (which we love and enjoy so much).

Sun-damaged skin’s visible signs treatable with IPL are:

  • pigmentation (freckles, sun spots, age spots, skin discolouration, mottled pigmentation, dull complexions) and

  • diffused redness, high colour or rosacea symptoms as well as broken capillaries (thread veins or telangiectasia).

The light is absorbed by haemoglobin in the fine blood vessels (treating redness) and melanin in the age spots (treating pigmentation) and effectively removed by destroying the melanin and coagulating small blood vessels. Skin texture is also improved and many clients report that it becomes easier to apply makeup.

A course of up to 3 treatments, every 4 weeks is recommended for the best results, treating sun-damaged pigmentation and 3-6 treatments, every 4 weeks, treating redness. You might choose to have 1-2 annual maintenance treatments in order to keep your youthful appearance.

Patch Test required prior to first treatment.

Acne Clearance

Acne is caused by the increased production of the hormone androgen, which stimulates the sebaceous glands to produce sebum (oil) on which skin’s bacteria feed, causing an infection. Further to that, the oil cannot come up to the skin surface and as the bacteria multiply, sebaceous glands become inflamed – causing Acne.

During the treatment, two body chemicals absorb the light: haemoglobin (red pigment) and protoporphyrin (produced by Acne bacteria).

The treatment reduces the blood supply to the sebaceous gland, which slows down the production of sebum (oil) and P acnes bacteria that leads to acne. In addition, treatment minimises skin pores. As it is combination therapy, you will be advised to obtain a special cream from your doctor, 4 weeks prior to treatment, to begin to normalize the skin’s thickness and allowing greater IPL light penetration.

Treatment should be done once every 2-3 weeks for 4 treatments.

Patch Test required prior to first treatment.

Does it hurt?

The sensation varies from person to person. No anaesthetic is required and many clients describe the discomfort as a warming sensation similar to the feeling one after a day on the beach. Hair removal and treatment of pigment and acne are really quite comfortable treatments. Treatment of blood vessels typically feels like a rubber band flicking the skin, followed by a feeling of gentle warmth.

Are there any possible sides effects?

A mild erythema/redness can appear immediately after the treatment or a few hours to a few days after. We recommend using pure Aloe Vera gel to soothe the skin. When treating areas of pigmentation it is normal for you to experience darkening of pigment in the treated area in the next few days following the treatment
