Before Waxing….

– If you are afraid of pain, and haven’t had waxing before, you may take 1 or 2 paracetamol about 30-40 minutes before your appointment. This can help reduce discomfort.

– Make sure your hair is long enough to remove completely from the roots – it should be at least 0.5 centimetres. If you’ve shaved the area within the last few weeks it might take a couple of waxes to get your hair into a cycle of growth that allows the most effective results.

Immediately after Waxing…

You may experience a little bit of redness and a heat rash. This should disappear after a few hours and is normally due to a histamine reaction. Because waxing removes the hair at the root, it’s important that you keep the area clean and bacteria free:

– No sunbathing for at least 12 hours

– No swimming in a chlorinated pool for 24 hours

– No spa baths or saunas

– Avoid applying any topical lotions for at least 12 hours (fragrances and other lubricants can cause a burning sensation)

– Avoid touching the waxed area to ensure it remains bacteria free

– Use pure Aloe Vera gel to sooth your skin and/or tea tree based natural products for its antibacterial properties.

It’s important to prevent ingrown hairs. This is when new, softer hair can get trapped under the skin. Use a soft brush or exfoliating glove to gently buff the area every 2-3 days may be very helpful. You may be happy to know, your next wax will be a lot quicker and less painful! Regular waxing will leave the area hair free for 3 – 6 weeks. Over time the density of hair in the waxed area may start to decrease as well.

Contra-indications that PREVENT waxing:

Contagious skin condition – wait for the condition to clear before waxing, Thin or fragile skin – can cause bruising and tearing of the skin which may lead to infection, Use of steroid medication (this can cause a thinning of the skin. Waxing should not be done whilst using such medication, and not until 3 months after completing the treatment), Unidentified lumps or swelling, Previous allergic reaction to treatment.

Contra-indications that may RESTRICT waxing:

Raised moles and skin tags. Wax should not be applied directly over them, Abrasions, bites, broken skin, bruises – you should avoid waxing the affected area until healed, Varicose veins – you should not wax over the affected area.
